Mekotronics is widely recognized in the developer community for their industrial-grade Rockchip PCs. However, they are officially pivoting into high-end hardware acceleration by entering the NVIDIA ecosystem.

 

The company has just launched an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano/NX-based AI Box. It is a highly versatile, interface-heavy embedded computer specifically optimized to tackle heavy edge-AI workloads—without the extreme markup of ultra-rugged industrial competitors.

From driving humanoid robots to running local vision AI for smart city traffic grids, here is what this budget-friendly powerhouse brings to your workbench.

Scaling Performance: From 34 to 157 TOPS

Instead of locking you into a single hardware tier, Mekotronics built this carrier board to scale across four distinct NVIDIA System-on-Module (SoM) configurations:

  • Jetson Orin Nano (4GB): Delivers a reliable entry-level 34 TOPS of AI performance.
  • Jetson Orin Nano (8GB): Steps up compute performance to 67 TOPS.
  • Jetson Orin NX (8GB): Pushes local processing power to 117 TOPS.
  • Jetson Orin NX (16GB): Hits a massive ceiling of 157 TOPS, perfect for running transformer large models and local Large Language Models (LLMs).

Packed I/O Layout Built for Smart Infrastructure

While the footprint remains compact (the core PCB measures just 136 mm x 79 mm), Mekotronics engineered edge-to-edge connectivity to support real-time sensor fusion and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) setups.

  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet (with PoE): Features two networking ports, including one equipped with Power over Ethernet (PoE) to power external IP cameras directly over the data line.
  • Massive USB Array: Hosts six native USB Type-A ports alongside a dedicated Type-C port for rapid system flashing.
  • Dual Camera & Dual M.2 Storage: Includes two dedicated camera connectors for spatial computing alongside twin M.2 NVMe slots for high-speed local storage arrays.

The board natively boots NVIDIA JetPack 7.x running on Ubuntu 24.04. This gives developers direct, unhindered access to the newest CUDA architectures, TensorRT optimization pipelines, and standard ROS 2 (Robot Operating System) frameworks right out of the box.

The Verdict: Cost-Optimized Edge Computing
